OnePlus is known for many things. One of them is this phrase — Flagship Killer. OnePlus coined it and then popularised it, although in the last few years the company also started to move beyond it as it aimed to create not just flagship killers but also flagship phones. For example, this year the company has OnePlus 12, which is its flagship phone and which offers incredible value at its price. But surprisingly, even though OnePlus is not saying it, it also has a flagship-killer and that phone is the OnePlus 12R. Called or not, this review of the OnePlus 12R would make it clear that this phone is indeed forged in that spirit and chutzpah of the old OnePlus which made the brand a big hit among India consumers.
This is because the OnePlus 12R at its starting price of Rs 39,999 is just stupendous value for money. It offers, in a way, 90 per cent of what most flagship Android phones do at just 50 per cent of the price.
Let’s look at the specs first: The OnePlus 12R is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor. Now this might be one generation old, but do understand that it is a very capable CPU and last year it was powering Rs 70,000 phones. The OnePlus 12R has a 6.78 inch AMOLED display, 5500mAh battery – slightly bigger than the 5400mAh battery of the OnePlus 12 — and a 50-megapixel Sony IMX890 main camera. The phone is available in two variants: 8GB RAM and 128GB storage and 16GB RAM and 256GB storage. The price for the top-end variant is Rs 45,999, and that’s the one we have reviewed here.
